An Architectural Dream: The Parsmark Rexin Family Realise Their Vision with Villa Lingarö
In the scenic surroundings of Hudiksvall stands Villa Lingarö, an architect-designed masterpiece where the Parsmark Rexin family—Lina, Fredrik, and their two sons—have created their dream home. With a focus on Swedish craftsmanship and sustainability, they have woven together a residence where every detail is meticulously considered. From the solid interior doors by Njord to the bespoke kitchen from Bogården, this is a home built for an active life—both today and in the future.
Building a new house from scratch is a monumental journey. For this sports-loving family in Hudiksvall, it became the solution to a life previously marked by constant renovations. Their former home bore the marks of lively play, and a longing for a more carefree existence gave birth to the vision of Villa Lingarö. Here, design and function would unite to create a home that is not only beautiful to behold but can withstand all of life's stages.

Many homeowners reach a point where they must choose: renovate or build anew? For the Parsmark Rexin family, the decision became clear. Their previous home, filled with scuffed surfaces and traces of two energetic sons' antics, had drained their enthusiasm for endless renovations and improvements. They chose to create something from the ground up—a home designed to resist wear and tear, one that would be as functional during the coming teenage years as it is today.
A decisive factor in the project's success was the close collaboration with a dedicated architect from Anders Holmberg Arkitekter. Through open and continuous dialogue, Lina and Fredrik ensured their vision and requirements were translated into concrete plans. The architect contributed more than just aesthetics; through intelligent planning, the floor space was optimised so effectively that between 10 and 15 square metres could be eliminated. This reduction in area led to a cost saving that, in practice, funded the entire architect's fee—a testament to the value of professional expertise.
Architect Anders Holmberg explains
On a gently sloping plot outside Hudiksvall, the house takes its place as an elongated volume, hovering just above the ground. This horizontal design, reinforced by a generous roof overhang, creates a linear character that allows the building to merge with the landscape rather than dominate it.
The house's visual identity is defined by a carefully selected trio of materials. The solid, rendered walls provide a sense of weight and anchorage. The warmth and character of pine in the facades and window sections create an organic connection to the surrounding nature. Finally, the thin, precise lines of the metalwork add a modern sharpness. Each material has a clear and consistent role throughout the project, creating a harmonious whole.
The result is a home where structure, material, and movement interact to create an architectural experience. It is a building that is not merely placed in the landscape but actively extends and becomes part of it.
Inside, a calm and neutral colour palette was chosen, giving the home a warm and timeless feel. The family wanted to create a home that feels personal and enduring, rather than following fleeting trends. Many details and materials were also brought over from their old house.
The budget was primarily allocated to the things that are used most and need to last. The Parsmark Rexin family therefore opted for high-quality, durable materials and products—such as a kitchen from Bogården in Skellefteå, energy-efficient windows from WB-Trä in Burträsk, and interior doors from Njord. Through thoughtful choices, they created a home with both lasting function and feel.
After a two-year search, they found the perfect plot—a woodland site with a view over the lake, just a stone's throw from the sea, yet still close to school and work. With sport being a central part of family life, the home was adapted for activity. A specially designed activity room with synthetic ice and changing cubicles was integrated into the garage, providing a sanctuary for ice hockey practice that protects the rest of the house from hard pucks. Outside, a private football pitch was laid to accommodate the family's active lifestyle.

A door is perhaps not something one thinks much about—until you find the right one. The majority of the interior doors in the house are walnut with concealed frames. The hinged doors, equipped with magnetic locks and elegant handles from Formani, are almost 2500 mm high and contribute to a feeling beyond the ordinary. Here, the door becomes something that commands its own space.
The sliding doors, also built into the wall without a trace of architrave or moulding, have integrated soft-closing mechanisms that eliminate slamming and the risk of trapped fingers.

Lina and Fredrik's primary advice to others dreaming of a new build is clear: prioritise function over superficial aesthetics. Invest in what you touch every day. A quality kitchen, durable windows, and solid interior doors are the backbone of a home built to last. And perhaps most importantly: allow the process to take time. A home like Villa Lingarö is proof that thoughtful decisions and patience are the best building blocks of all.
What does it cost to hire an architect?
The cost varies, but a skilled architect can often save their own fee by optimising the layout and reducing the total building area, which lowers both material and labour costs.
Why choose solid interior doors?
Solid doors offer superior sound insulation, durability, and a tangible sense of quality. Features like soft-closing mechanisms and magnetic locks enhance the user experience and contribute to a quieter, more harmonious living environment.
How do you create a home adapted for sports without ruining the interior?
By dedicating specific areas, such as a garage or a basement, for intensive activities. Clad these spaces in durable materials to protect the more delicate parts of the home.
