Flying Treehouse – the treehouse that takes dreams to new heights
On a sloping plot overlooking the Transtrand Mountains and the Dal River, David and Danielle have created their dream house – a holiday home that combines the beauty of nature with thoughtful materials and timeless design.
The family, who usually live in Kungsholmen, Stockholm, with their two children Alba and Zach, have always felt a strong pull towards the mountains and the tranquility of nature. At the same time, they appreciate the buzz of city life. Striking that balance became an important driving force in their house project.
"We wanted to create a place near the mountains where we could gather family and friends. When we saw architect Buster Delin’s 3D proposal, we knew instantly: this is the house we are going to build."

Building remotely, with small children and no prior experience, was a challenge – but also a journey full of learning. David and Danielle led the project themselves, completing much of the interior work with the help of friends, YouTube, and ChatGPT.
"We’ve learned so much. The biggest takeaway is to just go for it – the worst that can happen is you have to redo something. The best part is that you learn along the way and do it better next time."
The vision for the house was clear from the start: it should feel authentic, smell of wood, and let nature take center stage both indoors and outdoors. The house floats above the ground, with large windows inviting the mountain scenery to become a natural part of the interior.
Inside, natural materials dominate: hand-polished clay-plastered walls, burnt and brushed pine floors, spruce ceilings, and red Jämtland limestone in the hallway and bathrooms. From the solid oak doors to frames treated with the same plaster as the walls, every detail has been carefully chosen.
"We wanted doors that feel real – not plastic or over-processed. Njord's doors have a weight and quality we truly appreciate, and they were easy to install too. We chose Njord for several reasons. The first is the service and their willingness to find the right solutions for our needs and preferences. Another key aspect, as mentioned earlier, is our desire to use natural materials with weight and quality. Both the door panels and frames from Njord are solid and natural, which we love."
With mountains, forest, and the river just around the corner, Flying Treehouse has become a place for relaxation, connection, and adventure. A home where every detail has been chosen with care – from the limestone in the hallway to the small rosette on the door handles – and where the architecture lets nature speak.
"We’ve chosen suppliers based on quality, service, and their willingness to find the right solutions for us. That has made all the difference."
